Our Housing Policy

The Homes We Need, Where We Need them

North Northamptonshire Liberal Democrats will launch an ambitious housing improvement programme, beginning with a £16 million capital allocation to build council and other social homes using every delivery route—from direct council builds and modular off-site construction to joint ventures with developers. We will kickstart already planned and permitted private housing schemes to get the market building at the required pace and scale, introduce council house MOTs to ensure repairs and planned maintenance are delivered efficiently and on schedule, and work closely with local housing associations to raise the standard and availability of their social housing. To widen access, we’ll add a new band to the Keyways waiting list so those already in adequate accommodation can register and bid for council properties, making the system more transparent and responsive to changing needs.

Our Positive Plan for Housing:

1) Build council houses and other social housing using any delivery means available, starting with the £16m in the capital programme

2) Kickstart already planned and permitted private housing developments. Get the private sector building at pace and in quantity

3) Introduce council house MOTs for efficient and timely delivery of repairs and planned maintenance

4) Work with Housing Associations operating locally to improve their social housing offer

5) Add a band to the Keyways system (housing waiting list) so that people who are currently adequately housed can register and bid on council properties
