Jenny Holding North Northamptonshire Council to Account

Cottages in Burton Latimer in a state of disrepair

We all know there is a shortage of homes in our area and across the country, especially council homes. Imagine Cllr Jenny Davies' surprise at two homes in Burton Latimer being left empty for over two years in an awful state - and then imagine the shock when it was revealed the council owned the properties!

Jenny raised the issue of the fire-damaged homes with North Northamptonshire Council a year ago - having been left to ruin since they were damaged by fire, becoming an eyesore for local residents and becoming a nuisance. At first the Council were unsure who owned the bungalows, but Jenny was able to confirm they belonged to the Council themselves. Ever since Jenny has been keeping in regular contact with the Council to make sure this gets resolved for local residents.

Unfortunately, North Northamptonshire Council have now said that they are “not yet in a position to confirm a definitive commencement date for the works”, but assure Jenny that they are treating the matter with urgency to make sure that progress is made as swiftly as possible. Jenny is going to keep on chasing this with the council and make sure these homes are brought back into much needed use, providing homes for local people.

Speaking after the latest NNC response, Jenny said “I do hope that this disgraceful saga of neglect can be ended soon and that it is not just a new use for the word ‘swiftly’”.
