Alex Lock campaigns for Exeter and Old Village Buses
According to government deprivation data, roughly 1 in 3 on the Exeter estate lack access to a car and many live over 500 metres from any current bus stop. For the elderly and disabled residents of the estate, for whom we have more than most estates in Corby, we demand a bus service be provided to help people gain access to services, employment, and other amenities.
I have proposed a change to the number 5 that would support this as well as issue in the Old Village including access for the elderly and parking demands on the station quarter. This route would add 3 stops one way and should be done to have an increased bus service of 5 services a day to 1 an hour (approximately 10-12 services) to ensure regular access to both areas whilst supporting residents and shops alike.
This change to the buses could have a drastic improvement on people's accessibility, uptake of bus services, and utilise bus stops that already exist on the estate.
I've been approached by multiple residents on the estate on the impact to elderly and disabled residents with some being over 600m away from a bus stop. With my proposed changes, it would leave only 8% of homes outside the recommended 300m by the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transport with all being within 400m. If we can increase that frequency and decrease distance, we can improve the lives of many on the estate particularly the elderly and disabled. This map visualises areas most impacted by the current bus services with some being up nearly 700 metres away from a bus stop.
This is a positive plan to how we help one of the most deprived estates in Corby and the oldest part of town be a Corby that serves everyone.
