Liberal Democrats candidate for the Lloyds and Corby Village by-election Alex Lock is campaigning for Corby to have its own permanent knife bin, to help combat knife crime in the town and ensure that our young people remain safe. A resident of the ward with young children, Alex is concerned that Corby is the only town in the area that doesn't have a full time static drop box, and wants an expanded program of outreach and education to help keep Corby safe.

Talking about his campaign, Alex said:

“Our story begins with an unfortunate yet sadly regular occurrence within Corby where a boy was held at knife point for his bike. From that conversation, a fellow Lib Dem had pointed out to me that on the police.uk website there was no knife bin listed for Corby and I had try to find out why or how."

“It's been a journey of learning, frustration, and understanding. Whilst there is in fact a knife bin (though this was news to those in the Cube where it was situated), it is only available until 4pm and often follows the 'Beat Bus' when out.”

“Learning from East Midlands Knife Amnesty that there seems to be a reluctance to bring one to Corby, I will continue to campaign to ensure there's one in Corby like there is in Kettering, Wellingborough, Oundle and other places throughout the North Northamptonshire area. I hope this will become a part of integral system of knife amnesty including outreach and education programmes to help keep our streets safe.”

"Together with knowledge local experts and partners, I want us to come to a community solution funded by the Corby Town Council to make knife crime a part of the past.”
